Casuarina was built in 1979 to provide hostel type accommodation to the residents of the Bega Valley.
The hostel comprised of four main houses, each house consisting of a lounge and dining areas with its own domestic sized kitchen and a total of 31 motel type suites where residents were provided care and support. In December 2017 Sapphire Coast Community Aged Care Ltd built additional beds at Hillgrove House to accommodate all residents from Casuarina Hostel, and in December 2017 all Casuarina Hostel residents were relocated to Hillgrove House. This now allows residents from the Bega Valley to move into Hillgrove House and as there frailty changes Sapphire Coast Community Aged Care will be able to provide services in the residents own room and residents will no longer be required to move from Casuarina Hostel to Hillgrove House as their frailty changes.
