Australia’s first ‘in-situ’ healthcare accelerator includes aged care startup DailyCare
DailyCare is excited to announce that it is one of 15 startups participating in Australia's first 'in situ' healthcare accelerator based within the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The Melbourne Health|STARTUP61 HealthTech Accelerator is a world-leading HealthTech initiative designed to find innovative solutions to actionable health challenges. The Royal Melbourne Hospital has transformed its defunct Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and former nursing stations into a collaborative workspace where startups, researchers and clinicians are working together to accelerate commercial solutions to a range of health-related issues.
Tull Roseby, CEO and Founder of DailyCare said that immersion in the HealthTech Accelerator is providing immediate benefits and he hopes his company's involvement will ultimately help older Australians receive the care they need in their day-to-day lives after a hospital discharge.
'Innovative approaches are needed to solve the many urgent challenges facing our healthcare system. For example, in our case, 50 per cent of aged care referrals come from hospitals who have patients that are ready to be discharged, but need greater support than they previously had at home or accomodation placement.
'Hospitals are the major touch point between consumers and the aged care sector. Being based within Royal Melbourne Hospital has enabled us to discuss and learn from hospital staff about the pain points hospitals experience in their efforts to discharge older patients and how we can help them help their patients with this transition.
'DailyCare's online platform was developed to help people to make informed decisions and to secure aged care accommodation and support services for themselves and family members. We are now looking at how our offering can support the real-time need of hospitals to free up beds while ensuring discharged patients receive the assistance they need in their day-to-day lives, and in a way they can afford.
'Our aim in building DailyCare was to change the way people engage with the aged care sector and to empower people to make confident decisions that suits their individual needs and stage in life. Our participation in the HealthTech Accelerator brings this one step closer,' Mr Roseby said.

DailyCare's founder, Tull Roseby, launched the site because during his years providing in-home aged care services in Melbourne through his company Absolute Care, he was asked almost every day for advice on how to get additional care services into the home, or where to look for the most appropriate care accommodation for an individual's needs.
